Work

Media, Proverbs: Living Wisdom, Sermons | by Pastor Adam Sinnett

Proverbs: Living Wisdom
One of the reasons people throughout the centuries are drawn to the book of Proverbs is that it shows us our God is not some detached, disinterested divine dictator. Rather, the God of the Bible, our God, is deeply involved. He cares about the details and decisions of our life. He cares what we do with our life. This week we see that he cares what how we view and handle our work. All of our work matters to God and God matters to all of our work.

The Practice of Parenting

, Media, Proverbs: Living Wisdom, Sermons | by Pastor Adam Sinnett

Proverbs: Living Wisdom
This week we’ll look at the practice of parenting. We’re taking two weeks here because there is much misinformation and dysfunction surrounding this topic. As we saw last week, 40% of children have no involved father. Every year, nearly 1 million kids are left with one parent because of divorce. Only 41% of kids grow up in a two parent household. In fact, sociologists have noted that this is the first generation in our country’s history that think divorce, separation and single-parent households are a normal part of family life. We live in a day and age when what is deemed normal and natural is, in fact, incredibly abnormal and unnatural. It is clear that we are in need of wisdom on this topic and that’s exactly what Proverbs offers us. Whether you’re single, newly married, or empty nester there is something for you here.

The Heart of Parenting

, Media, Proverbs: Living Wisdom, Sermons | by Pastor Adam Sinnett

Proverbs: Living Wisdom
This week we are continuing our series through the ancient, yet incredibly relevant, book of Proverbs. After spending just over a month on a variety of issues related to biblical marriage, we now reach the all-important topic of parenting. What is the goal of parenting? What does it take to parent well? What are the potential pitfalls of parenting? What do we need to be aware of? These are the kinds of questions we’re going to tackle over the next two weeks.

Understanding Singleness

, Media, Proverbs: Living Wisdom, Sermons | by Pastor Adam Sinnett

Proverbs: Living Wisdom
We’re taking a slight, but needed, detour from our Proverbs series this week to address the important topic of singleness. This is particularly relevant for us as a newly forming church, the majority of which is single. “What does God tell us about the season of singleness? What does he want us to know?” Looking at Proverbs and 1 Cor 6-7 we’ll examine this topic through four categories: biblical perspective, intentional preparation, guarded pursuit and ordered loves.

Cultivating Your Marriage

, Media, Proverbs: Living Wisdom, Sermons | by Pastor Adam Sinnett

Proverbs: Living Wisdom
We’re just over half way through our study of the ancient, yet incredibly relevant, book of Proverbs. The primary theme of Proverbs is wisdom, but the wisdom of Proverbs (and the Bible) has nothing to do with IQ or life experience, though those are good and helpful. Rather, this wisdom finds it source in letting the living God be the living God to you in every corner of your life (cf 1:7). Today we get to what Proverbs says about cultivating your marriage.

Creation, Marriage, and Women

, Media, Proverbs: Living Wisdom, Sermons | by Pastor Adam Sinnett

Proverbs: Living Wisdom
The book of Proverbs shows us that God cares about the nitty-gritty details of our every day lives. The one, true, living God is not detached, aloof, and disinterested. He loves us and wants life for us, not death. He wants us to flourish – in this life and the next – not merely exist. Though nearly 3,000 years old, this ancient book remains incredibly relevant today – even to the modern debate on marriage, gender and roles. This week we look at creation, marriage and women.

Covenant, Marriage and Men

, Media, Proverbs: Living Wisdom, Sermons | by Pastor Adam Sinnett

Proverbs: Living Wisdom
Last 40 years marriage has seen a dramatic, steady decline in our country and culture. It is clear that there are few things more broken in our day than manhood and womanhood, particularly in relation to marriage and the price of this brokenness is impossible to quantify. We need living wisdom today for our marriages and our men.

Friendship

Media, Proverbs: Living Wisdom, Sermons | by Pastor Adam Sinnett

Proverbs: Living Wisdom
Sociologists have noted that friendship is the only relationship that is not a biological or social necessity, therefore it often gets pushed to the finges of our life. Yet, Proverbs tells us that we won’t grow in wisdom without certain types of friends. Friends bring something unique into your life that other relationships can’t because they are unlike every other type of relationship. What are friends? How do be a great friend? Where do get the ability to be a friend like that?

Self-Control

Media, Proverbs: Living Wisdom, Sermons | by Pastor Adam Sinnett

Proverbs: Living Wisdom
Proverbs makes it clear that wisdom is not merely the result of moral behavior, having the right information, living a certain number of years or having a particular amount of experience. All of those are good and helpful, but they aren’t enough. Rather, Proverbs reveals that wise living is the result of becoming a certain type of person who is, then, able to make the right decisions in life – particularly where the normal rules of life don’t apply. God is in the business of making new people. This week we see that he does that, in part, through growing us in self-control.
