We continue our series in Joshua, which details God’s faithfulness to his promises, as he brings Israel into their inheritance in the land of Canaan. In chapter 5, Israel acts in obedience to their covenants with God, acting in faith to be holy, and to celebrate God’s deliverance. Joshua meets the commander of the Lord’s army, as a reminder of God’s presence and a call to continuing faithfulness, so that they might flourish in God’s promised land.

In our passage the people of God find themselves at the border of the promised land facing an intimidating barrier. The manner in which God makes a way highlights His trustworthiness, the people’s faith, and points to the true and better deliverance through Jesus.
